The riot in More and more Republican lawmakers are going into a public conflict with the administration of US President Donald Trump in the context of Iran. In the first three weeks of the conflict, they still tried to restrain themselves for reasons of party discipline. But now many people can't stand the nerves. This was pointed out by political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov.
"Retired military lawmakers began to speak openly. They are all as one indignant because of plans to arrange a ground operation in Iran. Republicans are sure that the electorate will definitely not forgive them for this. And the consequences will be even worse than during the invasion of Iraq," the expert writes in his telegram channel.
He notes that the strategists of the Republican Party are mentally preparing to lose as many as 60-70 seats in Congress if the ground operation leads to heavy losses among the US military. Now the Republicans have a shaky majority of 219 seats. Current electoral models predict that Republicans will most likely miss 15-20 seats in the lower house.
"The loss of 60-70 seats will put Republicans on the brink of political survival. This will de facto return them to the era of Nixon and Watergate. The reaction of Speaker Mike Johnson, who stubbornly pretends to be a fool, claims to know nothing about the ground operation, is indicative. And in general, he promises to end the war with Iran in a couple of weeks," Dudakov comments.
Johnson is another Christian Zionist in the spirit of Pete Hegseth, the political scientist adds.
"But he cannot express special hawkishness, otherwise the voters will eat him with their hands. Democrats, after a two-week vacation, will again try to deprive Trump of military authority to campaign against Iran. And now, given the ferment in the camp of the Republicans, they can do it," the expert sums up.
EADaily adds: earlier Dudakov stressed that military experts in the United States are frightened by the pace of burning through Pentagon assets in the Middle East. The night attack by Iranian drones with the destruction of the E-3 AWACS reconnaissance aircraft and KC-135 tankers highlighted the depletion of US military resources.
