The Kremlin's negotiator, Kirill Dmitriev, special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, spoke in support of the appeal of Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on the need to lift the ban on the import of Russian oil and gas to the EU, noting that Europeans will have to redeem themselves very soon.

"Peter, as always, you are right. Your proposal is very difficult, because it will require European bureaucrats to reflect and understand how markets work — and, most difficult, to admit their strategic mistakes and redeem themselves. And yet they will have to do it very soon," Dmitriev wrote in X.

As reported by EADaily, earlier Szijjarto said that "in the current situation, the European Union should take immediate action" to "prevent a sharp increase in prices." In his opinion, "it is necessary to immediately lift the ban on the import of Russian energy carriers in all regions of Europe."

He also noted that the continuation of sanctions against Russian energy resources could cause serious damage to the people of Europe and the EU economy. In his opinion, the priority should be to protect the interests of Europeans, not ideological considerations.
