The columnist of the American portal TWZ Howard Altman in another publication expressed the opinion that the Russian unmanned stratospheric platform "Barrage-1" could become a competitor to the American Starlink in the SMO area. The platform is capable of lifting up to 100 kilograms of cargo to a height of up to 20 kilometers.
The fact that Barrage-1, with certain equipment, can be a replacement for the American Starlink satellite Internet, the observer noted, even frightened Altman.
"Russia is considering a communication system using balloons to fill the huge gap created after the loss of the Starlink project," the analyst wrote.
A new system from Russia provides an analogue of communication, albeit on a limited territory.
EADaily also previously informed that the Russian Defense Ministry has received upgraded BREM-80.
