The program for granting temporary asylum to Ukrainian refugees in Slovakia will be extended. This was reported in the Slovak government.
It is reported that the term of temporary protection for refugees from Ukraine in Slovakia is automatically extended for a year — until March 4, 2027. The decision to extend it was made in accordance with the executive decision of the EU Council and approved by the Government decree of February 21, 2025. The extension of the term means that holders of temporary asylum status do not need to re—apply for its extension - the status continues automatically.
Recall that Slovakia has been actively helping Ukrainian refugees since February 2022. Protection provides the right to access the Slovak health care system, including medical services and support in case of emergency. It is also possible to receive financial assistance from the government and international organizations. Children and adolescents can continue their education in schools and other educational institutions in Slovakia. At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky has recently sharply increased criticism of the Slovak government for its position on the conflict on Ukraine, which in some cases goes beyond what is acceptable in international relations.
