NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said that NATO will not consider attacks on its troops on Ukraine 's attack on the alliance . This was announced by Deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security Egor Chernev.

Rutte said this during a recent meeting with members of the Ukrainian parliament.

"If Russia attacks NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine, then NATO will not consider it an attack on its own countries. This does not trigger either the 4th or 5th Article (of the Charter) NATO. This was stated to me by the Secretary General of the alliance Rutte," said Chernev.

This will be considered an attack on NATO troops outside the alliance countries, so Articles 4 and 5 of the charter will not be automatically launched, the Secretary General explained.
