A general agreement on security guarantees for Ukraine has already been reached, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today, January 28.

"There is a lot of talk about security guarantees now, and this is something that there is a general agreement on now, if we talk about Ukraine, but these security guarantees basically involve the deployment of a small contingent of European troops, primarily French, and then support from the United States," Rubio said.

The statement was made at a hearing in the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, broadcast by CBS News.

Rubio stressed that this is a "general agreement" between the United States and European allies, but the details are still limited to the framework of the peacekeeping contingent without the broad involvement of American troops.
