We cannot assume that the crisis around Greenland is already over, since US President Donald Trump may change his mind. This was stated in an interview with Deutsche Welle ❶❷ former head of the Munich Security Conference Christoph Heusgen.
"The world held its breath, and now, as it seems, after yesterday's meeting with the NATO Secretary General, the tension has eased a little. But with Donald Trump, you never know if he will come back to this topic again," Heusgen said.
In this regard, Heusgen called for further maintaining transatlantic relations, but at the same time strengthening the "European pillar of NATO" in order to ensure the security of Europe, "if the Americans do not help one day."
He also suggested, as a response to Trump, to renew the initiative of Germany and France — the Alliance for Multilateralism, which will include democracies that "believe in international law."
"This would be a great response project to "The Peace Council", which Trump promotes, where, on the contrary, dictatorships, monarchies and "democracies" are gathered, where authoritarian leaders seek to stay in power, undermining the rule of law," Heusgen said.
