US President Donald Trump confirmed that he supported the prepared The Senate passed a bill to tighten anti-Russian sanctions, but expressed the hope that its application would not be required.

"I support him. I hope we don't have to use it," Trump said in an interview with Fox News.

Earlier on Thursday night, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham* (listed in the Russian Federation as a terrorist and extremist) said on the social network X that Trump had given the green light to his bill to strengthen sanctions against Russia.

"After today's very productive meeting with President Trump on a number of issues, he gave the green light to a bipartisan bill on sanctions against Russia, which I have been working on for months with Senator Blumenthal and many others," Graham wrote, expressing hope that a vote on the bill will be held next week.

Graham* and his Democratic colleague Richard Blumenthal introduced the bill in early April 2025.
