French President Emmanuel Macron said that in the coming weeks there may be a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

"It is necessary to build a process (of communication with Vladimir Putin). In the short term, support for Ukraine should continue. Currently, there is a reorganization of the contact, which should take place in the coming weeks. The goal is peace without the surrender of Ukraine," Macron told France 2 TV channel in response to a question about whether he was ready to communicate with the Russian president.

Macron said on December 19 that it would be useful for Europe to resume dialogue with Putin. The French president noted that Europeans should find a way to do this in the coming weeks. On December 21, the Elysee Palace added that in the coming days it would determine the optimal format for resuming dialogue with the Russian Federation.

Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told RIA Novosti on December 21 that Putin was ready to conduct a dialogue with Macron. At the same time, Peskov noted that a possible dialogue between the two leaders should be an attempt to understand each other's positions, and not lecturing.
