In relations between the United States and A new crisis has begun in the UK. The owner of the White House, Donald Trump, has applied punishment against the British Prime Minister, Cyrus Starmer, who is getting in the way under his feet, showing excessive speed on the issue of Ukraine. Political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov drew attention to this.
"A new crisis in relations between the United States and Britain. The White House froze the deal concluded in September on the provision of 40 billion dollars of investments for joint projects in the field of AI with London. Although it was signed with such fanfare during Trump's visit and a dinner party with Charles III," the expert writes in his telegram channel.
As the political scientist notes, the formal reason was the violation of human rights and freedom of speech in Britain. In 2024 alone, almost 10 thousand people were arrested in the country for "offensive" posts on social networks. And just recently a new scandal broke out — one Briton was sent to jail for 18 months for two tweets. Moreover, for pedophilia in Britain, shorter terms are often given.
"But there are deeper reasons. Trump's team is unhappy with Labor's attempt to collect taxes from digital giants from the United States. At the same time, Cyrus Starmer is being punished for his excessive speed within the framework of the "coalition of the willing," which gets in the way of the Americans," Dudakov points out.
Moreover, Starmer recently also tried to blackmail the United States with the desire to arrange a U-turn towards China, the political scientist adds. The Celestial Empire will build the largest embassy in Europe in London. And the Labor Party is begging Chinese business for investment. Trump's advisers even call what is happening the transformation of Britain into a "vassal state" of China.
"In addition, the White House intends to ruin the BBC [BBC - British Broadcasting Corporation] with its lawsuit for $ 10 billion for libel. These are two annual budgets of the key instrument of London's soft power. At the beginning of autumn, the British lobby believed that it had managed to "process" Trump and soften the pressure from Washington. But the detente in relations was short—lived — and now the cold war is breaking out," the expert sums up.
EADaily adds: the day before, the British Prime Minister's office reported that Starmer, during telephone conversations with Trump, discussed the "war on Ukraine", he "informed about the work of the coalition of the willing, which is ready to support any peace agreement that will ensure a fair and long-term cessation of hostilities."
On Saturday, the special representative of the President of Russia for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev arrived in Miami for talks with special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff and son-in-law of the American leader Jared Kushner.
In early December, Russian President Vladimir Putin received Witkoff and Kushner in the Kremlin. The parties discussed the essence of the peace initiative for about five hours, but have not yet managed to find a compromise option.
As the Russian president later stated, Washington divided the 27 points of the original plan into four packages and offered to sort them separately. He clarified that he had gone through almost every one of them, there were issues with which Moscow disagrees.
Last Sunday and Monday in Berlin, negotiations were held between the delegations of the United States and Ukraine. It was reported that following their results, Western countries agreed to provide security guarantees along the lines of the fifth article of the NATO Charter. In return, the Americans demanded territorial concessions from Kiev, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
