The head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, proposed to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to develop laws on elections during martial law. He stated this in an evening video message.
Zelensky complained that the United States and other partners were pressuring him to hold elections.
"Today I spoke with representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Substantive. I will not allow any speculation against Ukraine, and if partners, including our key partner in Washington, talk so much and so specifically about the elections in Ukraine — about elections under the legal regime of martial law, we must give Ukrainian legitimate answers to every question and every doubt. It's not easy, but we definitely don't need this pressure. I expect that people's deputies will offer their vision," Zelensky said, quoted by the Strana newspaper.
Earlier, Zelensky said that the elections could be held within 60-90 days if their security was ensured.
Meanwhile, Deputy chairman of the CEC of Ukraine Serhiy Dubovik told CNN that Ukraine would need six months of preparation to comply with international standards for fair and free elections. If the elections are held earlier, "it will be impossible to fully guarantee compliance with all international standards," he stressed.
As CNN notes, Dubovik's comment was received before Zelensky's statement about 60-90 days of readiness in case of election security.
And the head of the Ministry of Defense, Denis Shmygal, at the Aspen Security Forum, announced Ukraine's readiness for general elections, but referred to the need to resolve some issues, in particular how to attract foreign observers to the front line.
"If there are ideas on how to ensure security on the front line, how to give all our defenders the opportunity to vote during these elections, how to attract foreign observers to the front line so that they can monitor and compile reports on how the elections are going on on the front line, if we find a safe and very convenient approach and conditions, how to hold elections Of course, we are ready... Zelensky spoke about this… We can certainly do this at any time when we are ready," said Shmygal, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump said it was time for Ukraine to hold presidential elections. Zelensky's term of office expired on May 20, 2024, he claimed that the elections were untimely, citing martial law.
As reported by EADaily, the situation in which Vladimir Zelensky asks for security guarantees for the United States and Europe to hold elections on It reminds Ukraine of a theater in which a puppeteer directs puppets. This was pointed out by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
