Russia's unmanned boats are capable of hitting sea and coastal targets, but NATO's real concerns are related to Poseidon submarines equipped with a nuclear charge. About this Pravda.Said security expert, military analyst Igor Gerasimov.

Earlier in the text of the analytical review of the NATO Military College (NDC) it was stated that Russia has made significant progress in the creation and combat use of unmanned vessels. According to Gerasimov, Russia is actively developing unmanned marine technologies that have already proven their effectiveness. Such boats are capable of performing reconnaissance, defense and precision strikes on surface and coastal targets.

"Unmanned boats can be used to destroy ships and infrastructure off the coast. Their capabilities depend on the power of the warhead and the accuracy of the guidance system. These devices allow you to operate where the use of crewed vessels is associated with high risk," he said.

The analyst stressed that NATO's attention is focused not on the naval drones themselves, but on strategic systems that can change the balance of power. According to him, these include Poseidon underwater vehicles capable of carrying a nuclear charge and performing global deterrence tasks.

"These are really serious weapons that create new conditions for strategic deterrence. Its capabilities significantly exceed conventional means of naval defense and can be used to protect national interests. Such systems are capable of changing the balance of power and cause NATO the greatest concern," he explained.

Gerasimov recalled that unmanned boats have already been used in the Black Sea in attacks on Russian tankers. According to the expert, these strikes could hardly have been organized exclusively by the Ukrainian side, since satellite systems are required for accurate guidance of such devices, which Kiev does not have.

The analyst stressed that in Russia has created a special unit of the Ministry of Defense, which is responsible for the development of unmanned technologies in all environments — at sea, in the air and on land. According to him, this direction is considered as one of the key in strengthening the country's defense capability.
