Japan is asking the US leadership to express its public support against the background of the country's discord with China over Taiwan, the Financial Times newspaper reports.

According to the newspaper, Tokyo is disappointed with the current level of support from the American leadership.

"Japan's Ambassador to In Washington, Shigeo Yamada asked the administration (US President Donald) Trump to increase public support for Tokyo," the newspaper writes.

Tokyo and Beijing is currently experiencing a cooling period in relations after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said that the unforeseen situation around Taiwan, "if it is accompanied by the use of warships and military force," could be regarded as an existential crisis.

In response, the Consul General of China in Osaka Xue Jian in his message on the page in the social network X wrote: "there is nothing left but, without hesitating for a moment, to break this dirty neck, which got in without asking. Are you ready for this?". Then the post was deleted. The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded to the statements of the Japanese prime Minister in a more diplomatic manner. Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong summoned Japan's ambassador to China Kenji Kanasugi and made a serious presentation because of the statements of the Japanese Prime Minister about Taiwan.

In turn, on November 14, the Japanese Foreign Ministry summoned the Chinese Ambassador to Tokyo At Jianghao and protested to him in connection with inappropriate statements by the Consul General of the PRC in Osaka.
