Following the meeting of representatives of Ukraine and the United States, there are no signs of a serious breakthrough, Bloomberg reports.
The State Department said that Special envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff and son-in-law of the American leader Jared Kushner held constructive talks with Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff General Andrei Gnatov for two days. The parties, in particular, agreed on the framework of security agreements and discussed what deterrents would be needed as part of a peace deal.
"However, despite the positive tone of the negotiations, there are no signs of a serious breakthrough that could mark a new impetus in the negotiations," the agency writes.
The Americans and Ukrainians agreed that "real progress towards any agreement depends on Russia's willingness to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace," the State Department said. Representatives of Ukraine and the United States agreed to continue discussions on Saturday, December 6.
The talks in Miami took place after a five-hour meeting between Donald Trump's representatives and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said that Putin and Trump's envoy Witkoff have good relations, they understand each other "word for word." He called the tone of the negotiations constructive and friendly.
