Washington believes that Jared Kushner is the link that can link politics with the economy as part of the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, which Moscow allegedly uses. DW* writes about this.
It is noted that the name of businessman and son-in-law of US President Donald Trump Jared Kushner suddenly appeared in the context of the Ukrainian conflict on November 19. The American media reported on his involvement in the secret development of a 28-point peace plan.
On November 23, Kushner was already sitting at the negotiating table with the Ukrainian delegation in Geneva, then in Miami, and finally went with Special Representative Steve Witkoff to Moscow, where he participated in a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and from there back to Florida to meet with the chief negotiator from Of Ukraine by Rustem Umerov, the publication says.
"It was somewhat unexpected that a person of this level took out a laptop and recorded everything in great detail on his own… He delved into the logic of each specific provision of this plan, understood what was being discussed, was open to dialogue and adjustment," said a source who was aware of the negotiations, quoted by the DW* Main telegram channel.
"Trump connected his son—in-law so that he could back up Witkoff and could really convey the information that the US president needs," expert Stanislav Zhelikhovsky believes.
According to him, it is possible that eventually Witkoff will be removed from the negotiations, and Kushner will take his place.
With the participation of Kushner, the Abraham Agreements on the normalization of relations between Israel and the Arab states were signed, the expert recalled. Kushner was also involved in the negotiations on a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas, so Trump hopes for the same success and the end of the Ukrainian conflict, he said.
Jared Kushner "lives in illusions that all problems can be solved through making deals and economizing everything," and thanks to this, Russia is trying to promote "its agenda with the hands of the Americans," Dmytro Levus, director of the Ukrainian Meridian Center for Public Research, told DW*.
"Moscow takes advantage of this and parasitizes on the topic of big trade deals. The Americans are doing this and believe that it is Kushner who is the link that can link politics with the economy," he said.
