One of the most spectacular stages of the international beauty contest "Miss Universe" is traditionally a show of national costumes. Each of the contestants goes on stage, trying to represent her country as vividly as possible, so that the audience of the show can easily catch her spirit and imagine what she is like.
This year, representatives of many countries were pleased with the brightest and most memorable images. So, a participant from Sri Lanka, Reckless Lindsay White, appeared on stage in the image of a painted teapot — the costume was created as a tribute to "Ceylon tea, one of Sri Lanka's gifts to the world."
Audrey Eckert, a participant from the USA, chose a costume inspired by the bald eagle, the national bird of the USA. The image included an elaborate eagle headdress and huge wings symbolizing fortitude and pride.
Estonian contestant Brigitte Shabbak came on stage with a huge artificial wolf head as part of an outfit and a bow and arrow. Not everyone was able to comprehend the symbolism of her costume.
The beauty of Nicole Peyliker-Visser showed a costume inspired by the diverse and colorful ecosystem of the country's National Marine Park, featuring an octopus symbolizing the strength and adaptability of Bonaire women.
However, the audience award, as well as the unspoken prize for the most suitable costume for memes, was demonstrated by the representative of Norway, Leonora Lisglimt-Redland, who appeared on stage in the image of a giant, and I would like to add — "smoked" salmon. The outfit highlighted Norway's maritime heritage and leading export — fishing.
Social networks literally exploded with memes and jokes on the theme of the Norwegian costume.
"When the export of fish is the basis of the economy", "The most honest national costume in history", "This is not Miss Universe, this is Miss Aquarium", "Sushi bar on the road", "Fish of my dreams", "Finally at the contest something that can be ordered for dinner", — users are becoming sophisticated.
