Despite the opposition of a number of European countries, Berlin continues to investigate sabotage on Nord Streams and wants to try suspected Ukrainian saboteurs. This is a matter of domestic policy in Germany, experts say.

"The intrigue around the explosions on gas pipelines has not gone away — even when Germany is preparing to prosecute suspected Ukrainian saboteurs. Poland's attempts to block the case — apparently to protect its ally Ukraine - have caused new friction in Europe," CNN writes.

They noted that Berlin is set for a trial, as it has issued arrest warrants for two Ukrainians suspected of participating in an operation to blow up pipelines from Russia to Germany.

And, apparently, it will bring the matter to an end, despite the opposition of the Baltic States and Poland, which refused to extradite one suspect. The second case is being tried in Italy.

"This is a state (Germany) with the rule of law," Stefan Meister, an expert on Eastern Europe from the German Council on Foreign Relations, told CNN.

He noted that Germany has its own serious reasons to complete the investigation and hold a trial.

"I think it's important for internal purposes," Stefan Meister added.

While the right-wing oppositionists of the AfD question the credibility of state institutions, we are talking about "trust in the system, the institution and the ruling political elite," the expert explained.
