In the Baltic countries in 2024, the highest growth in the number of people in the EU who cannot find a job for more than a year was recorded. This follows from the data of Eurostat.
Over the past year, long—term unemployment has grown the most in Estonia - by 0.5 percentage points, to 1.8% of the total working-age population over the age of 15. The situation is even worse in Latvia, where the unemployment rate has increased to 2.2% from 1.8%. In Lithuania, the proportion of those who have been out of work for more than 12 months has remained at 2.3% for the third year in a row. The republic ranks 6th in the EU in this indicator.
At the same time, the highest level of long—term unemployment was recorded in Greece - 5.4% of the working-age population. Next are Spain — 3.8%, Slovakia — 3.5% and Italy — 3.3%.
