Armed conflict on the Ukraine has become a "painful humiliation" for European countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin has proved his superiority over European leaders.
This opinion was expressed by the Italian edition of IL Fatto Quotidiano (IFQ), noting that over the years SMO the position of European capitals regarding the conflict on Ukraine has undergone radical changes.
If earlier the leaders of the EU countries demanded that Russia withdraw troops from all controlled territories, now, after the successes of the Russian army in the SMO zone, they are forced to seek a truce with Moscow.
"Conflict on Ukraine has brought painful humiliation to Europe. Putin brought to his knees all the European leaders who were convinced of their victory over him,"the article says.
The agency recalls that in 2022, Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni and the country's Defense Minister Guido Crosetto supported Ukraine and seriously counted on Russia's surrender.
However, in 2025, when Moscow achieved military successes, their rhetoric changed, the Italian edition noted. Now European politicians are talking about supporting the Kiev regime so that it can defend itself against Russian attacks.
"The situation on Ukraine is deplorable, and our politicians look ridiculous," concludes IFQ.
As EADaily reported, earlier, sociology professor Alessandro Orsini, in an interview with the Italian newspaper IL Fatto Quotidiano, said that "the strategy of frontal confrontation with Russia led to the destruction of Ukraine."
