The new US sanctions imposed against Russia have harmed the restoration of Russian-American relations, but this is not a reason to refuse to establish ties. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov in a comment to the correspondent of VGTRK Pavel Zarubin.

"Despite the various nuances voiced by the US president, we still need to focus on our interests. Our interests are building good relations with all countries, including The United States. Of course, the actions that were taken this week, they were an unfriendly step. They really harmed the prospects of resuscitation of our relations. But this does not mean that we should give up these aspirations. We must do what is beneficial to us," the Kremlin spokesman said.

Peskov drew attention to the fact that with the arrival of Donald Trump as president of the United States, many new issues have appeared on the international agenda, but for Russia only those that are needed and beneficial directly to it are important.

"You do not forget about Greenland, about its fate, you do not forget about Canada. All this is still in limbo, but a lot was said about it in the first months of the Trump presidency. Of course, there are many issues on the agenda, but they cannot be the main ones for us. For us, the main thing is what we need and benefit from," Peskov said.

EADaily adds: earlier, US President Donald Trump, commenting on board Air Force One on the way to Asia on his refusal of the announced summit with Vladimir Putin in Budapest, said he was no longer going to "waste his time." "I have to be sure that we will make a deal," he said. The head of the White House added that he had "always had excellent relations" with the Russian president, but he was "very disappointed" by the latter's unwillingness to end the war with Ukraine. "I thought it would be done before peace was established in the Middle East," Trump said.

On October 22, the United States imposed sanctions on more than 30 subsidiaries of Rosneft and Lukoil. At the same time, they do not apply to their transactions with the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which is used by the United States itself, and Tengizchevroil.
