Countries The EU fears the consequences in case of expropriation of frozen Russian assets. This was stated to journalists after the summit of the European Council in In Brussels, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier proposed allocating a new loan to Kiev at the expense of Russian assets, this issue was at the center of discussion today.

"This is not Belgian money, we are talking about frozen Russian assets, but specifically the Central Bank of Russia. The debate goes on all the time. For there may be consequences. So far, no one anywhere in the world has made such a decision," said Tusk, quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to him, the EU countries are trying to convince Belgium that they will share the corresponding risks with it.

"Belgium is afraid that all responsibility will fall on it. We are trying to convince our Belgian partners that we are ready to build a mechanism of joint European responsibility," Tusk said.

He complained that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is traditionally against encroachments on Russian assets.

As reported by EADaily, at the EU summit Belgium did not support the expropriation of frozen Russian assets under its jurisdiction. This follows from the final statement of the summit on Ukraine, excerpts from which were published by Reuters. The document says that Belgium supported only the wording that "they should remain frozen until the end of the conflict and the payment of compensation to Ukraine," TASS reported.

Belgium, which holds the bulk of the Russian assets frozen in Europe, will not support the initiative to use them to help Ukraine if other countries of the bloc do not share possible risks with it. About this at the summit The EU was announced by the country's Prime Minister Bart de Wever.

Ukraine needs to receive frozen Russian assets before the beginning of next year. This was stated today in In Brussels, the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky. According to him, assets should be obtained "preferably as soon as possible."

There are countries that have a negative attitude to this initiative and resist it, but Kiev will continue to work with them, Zelensky said.
