Margarita Simonyan, editor-in-chief of the Rossiya Segodnya international media group and RT TV channel, underwent her first course of chemotherapy. She told about it in her telegram channel.

"I passed the first chemistry yesterday. It was a deadline, I specifically asked to postpone it until an acceptable deadline in order to have time to celebrate the anniversary of RT in a normal state... besides, it had to take time for the severed breast to heal. There are still some chemistries to be done, it is not yet clear exactly how many. Then radiation," she wrote.

Simonyan also refuted a number of myths that she personally met on social networks, but confirmed some facts.

In particular, after her husband, director Tigran Keosayan, fell into a coma, she really spent the first forty days with him in the hospital and at that moment said goodbye to life.

"Hence the hurricane current of oncology. Never do that! Don't click! I had a check-up in November and there was nothing there. In December, everything happened with Tigran — and I literally grew cancer at lightning speed," Simonyan believes.

According to her, she undergoes chemotherapy under compulsory medical insurance (Compulsory health insurance" in a municipal hospital, that is, free of charge.

"I don't have stage 3, but 1-2, thank God. There's no point in guessing what's next. Maybe, with God's help, they will cure me, or maybe, by His own decision, I will go to play backgammon with Tigras," Simonyan concluded and added that "I haven't played for a long time."

As EADaily reported, on September 7, Simonyan, on the program "Sunday Evening with Vladimir Solovyov" on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, announced a "terrible serious illness" and an upcoming operation. Then she did not specify her diagnosis.

On September 22, a post appeared on her telegram channel stating that she was undergoing treatment for cancer.

The 20th anniversary of the RT channel was celebrated on October 17 at the Bolshoi Theater. The celebration was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He stressed that everyone in the team is now aware of what a difficult period Simonyan is going through, but at work she always shows courage and perseverance.

"I am sure that you will cope now," Putin concluded his appeal to the editor—in-chief of RT.
