The Hungarian authorities will not comply with the decisions of the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin if he arrives in Budapest to meet with the head of the White House Donald Trump. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary Peter Szijjarto, recalling that earlier his country announced its withdrawal from the ICC and does not recognize the orders of this judicial body.
In an interview with CNN, the text of which was distributed by the Hungarian Foreign Ministry, he also expressed the hope that the European Union would not obstruct the Russian leader's trip to the Budapest summit.
"President Putin visited the United States in the summer and was not arrested there. If he comes to Hungary, then will not be arrested either. And I hope that European countries will allow him to fly to Hungary, because his meeting with President Trump is important for the cause of peace. If some country does not allow the overflight of the Russian president's plane [in its airspace], it will mean that it does not want peace," Szijjarto said, answering a question about the ICC's decision to issue an arrest warrant for Putin, quoted by TASS.
