Last week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held meetings with European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Valdis Dombrovskis, British Finance Minister Rachel Reeves, and Canadian Finance Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne, at each of which he urged the parties to increase economic pressure on Russia, the US Treasury said.

Earlier, the department issued a release stating that Bessent also met with German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil, where he also voiced this call.

As follows from the US Treasury Department's widespread releases, at each of the meetings, Bessent "emphasized the administration's expectation" that Brussels, London, Ottawa and Berlin would "increase the economic pressure of the G7 on Russia." It was emphasized that Washington expects Europe to play a leading role in this area.
