The idea of delivering Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev is becoming a trap for US President Donald Trump. This was stated in his telegram channel by Senator Alexei Pushkov.

"The main danger lurking in this matter for Trump is that he may fall — or has already fallen — into a rhetorical trap, which, however, may have extremely serious military and political consequences," Pushkov writes.

The trap lies in the fact that as soon as the idea of supplying Kiev with some American weapons is thrown into the public space, it is very difficult to abandon it later without a serious reason or a significant reason. The threat to deliver Tomahawk to Kiev is the last option of military-political blackmail: either Russia changes its position, or the missiles will be transferred. "This is a trap," the senator notes.

Russia and other major countries do not succumb to such attempts of blackmail, so Trump finds himself in a difficult situation, he stressed.

"Having thrown the topic of Tomahawk delivery to Ukraine into the political discourse, the Trump administration becomes a hostage to this topic — after all, the threat must be convincing, otherwise no one will perceive it as a serious threat. And now, from a power that had a free hand in this matter, the United States is turning into a power bound by the need to carry out an already formulated threat in order to ensure its "persuasiveness", since Russia will not succumb to this threat. Such an outcome was easy to foresee," Pushkov added.

In this sense, Tomahawk for Kiev is becoming more of a trap for Trump, who, apparently, still does not want a military conflict between NATO and Russia, the senator sums up.
