Volodymyr Zelensky has lost his sense of reality and is making outrageous statements, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto said, commenting on the recent statement by the Ukrainian leader that Kiev will be able to integrate into the European Union even without taking into account the position of Budapest.
"I think that the President of Ukraine has completely lost his sense of reality, completely lost touch with reality, and perhaps this can explain the fact that he says things that in a normal situation should have caused a storm of indignation. He says that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union. Dear Mr. President, this is not for you to decide. This issue is decided not by those who want to join the EU, but by those who are already in it," the Foreign Minister said in the Hour of Fighters program on the YouTube platform.
Szijjarto also recalled that the decision on the admission of new members to the EU should be taken only unanimously, and Hungary opposes Ukraine's accession to the community.
"The Hungarian people have already decided that they do not want strategic integration with Ukraine. We do not want Ukraine to be a member The EU and NATO," said the minister, quoted by TASS.
As reported, the Hungarian government has repeatedly warned that it would not allow Ukraine's hasty accession to the European Union, as this would destroy the European economy and lead to a direct armed conflict with Russia. At the EU summit in On June 26, in Brussels, Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocked a general statement in support of Ukraine, which gave the green light to the start of negotiations on its accession to the community.
