The North Atlantic Alliance is launching Operation Eastern Sentry ("Eastern Guardian"), the purpose of which is to strengthen the defense of the eastern flank of the military bloc.
This was stated on the eve of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte during a joint press conference with the commander-in-chief of the alliance forces in Europe, Alex Grinkevich.
"This operation will begin in the coming days and will involve the participation of numerous forces and means. The planned military capabilities will be aimed at eliminating specific threats associated with the use of drones," the Secretary General said.
He noted that the announced military activity will begin in the coming days and will include the efforts of allies, including Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany and other countries.
Rutte added that he considers the incident with drones that violated Polish airspace to be "dangerous and unacceptable." Operation Eastern Sentry will include elements aimed at solving special tasks related to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Recall that on the night of September 10, unidentified drones crossed the border of Poland. According to the Prime Minister of the republic Donald Tusk, a total of 19 drones were detected, a significant part of which flew from the territory of Belarus.
As EADaily reported, Poland, after the drones fell on its territory, requested additional air defense systems and anti-drone technologies from NATO allies.
