US President Donald Trump found himself in the position of his predecessor Joe Biden, who was constantly harassed by crowds of pro-Palestinian protesters. Now the same thing is starting to happen with the current head of the White House when he visits establishments that do not belong to him. It happened in a restaurant in Washington, where Trump's appearance caused a wave of protest.
Political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov writes about this in his telegram channel.
"The demonstrators have a new slogan — it's not just "free Palestine from the river to the sea." But also "Liberate the District of Columbia, liberate Palestine, Trump is the Hitler of our time.“ Here, at the same time, you can protest against Israel and against the military-police operation to clean up US cities from crime," the expert notes.
Moreover, the political scientist draws attention to the fact that Trump wanted to brag about his crime-fighting strategy in a Washington restaurant, but the protesters tried in every possible way to drown him out. Other members of his administration, like Marco Rubio, who had to hide from the demonstrators at one point, also got hurt. Rubio is considered to be quite hawkish in the context of the Middle East.
Dudakov recalls that pro-Palestinian protests in the United States have become active again since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran, and then the resumption of operations in Gaza.
"Now they will be fueled by the current instability in the region, with [Israeli] strikes on Qatar and the lack of progress in de—escalation," he adds.
In polls, Trump's policies in the Middle East are supported by no more than a third of Americans, the expert points out.
"After all, it was not possible to achieve the promised peace. At the same time, the attitude towards Israel in the United States has seriously deteriorated. And the Democrats, in turn, are thinking of adopting an anti—Israel agenda on the eve of the next election in order to use the entire protest electorate against Trump," he concludes.
