The murder of the former chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy may be connected with an attempt to clean up the political space inside the country, said Ambassador-at-large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Rodion Miroshnik.

"In the current situation, when the need for elections may loom on the horizon, the current actions against Parubiy may well be the desire of Zelensky's office, his clique, and his entourage to clean up the political field," Channel Five quoted the diplomat as saying.

According to Miroshnik, Parubiy has recently been in the zone of interests of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and his supporters. These forces, despite the opposition to the current government, also support radical nationalists. The diplomat stressed that the Kiev regime does not allow competition and prefers "one-man shows".

"In this case, what happened today in Lviv can be called the cleansing of the political field by the new Bandera from the old Bandera," he said.

The murder of Parubiy became known on August 30. According to police, the shooting occurred in Sykhiv district of Lviv. The ex-head of the NSDC died on the spot from his injuries. It is assumed that the crime was committed by the courier of the Glovo food delivery service.
