US President Donald Trump's adviser on trade and economic issues, Peter Navarro, called the Ukrainian conflict a "Modi war."
Navarro made the corresponding statement during his interview with Bloomberg TV. In his opinion, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a direct participant in the conflict on the Ukraine due to the fact that India continues to buy Russian oil.
The representative of the White House complained that "everyone in America loses" from the actions of the Indian leadership, including businesses and consumers. The reason for this is the high tariffs in India, which cost the United States jobs, income and higher wages.
"And then the taxpayers lose because we have to finance Modi's war. I mean Modi's war, because the road to peace runs, in particular, through New Delhi," the adviser said rather confusingly.
Recall that in August, US duties of 25% were imposed against India due to the purchase of oil from Russia. As a result, the total amount of US duties for this country amounted to 50%. Navarro stated that India does not need Russian oil, the country is participating in a "profit-making scheme for oil refining."
As reported by EADaily, earlier Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said that his country would make an independent strategic energy choice.
The minister also stressed that the close attention of the United States to the import of Russian oil to India does not apply equally to any China, nor the EU. Therefore, Indian companies will continue to buy Russian oil for economic reasons, despite the duties.
