Record low potato prices in the EU are good news for consumers, but not necessarily for producers. For example, Polish farmers warn that purchase prices have fallen sharply, which is the worst situation in many years. Details are reported by the publication Gazeta.Pl .

According to farmers, there is an oversupply in the domestic market this season. Wholesale prices have reached a level that makes production unprofitable.

"Today our producers can sell a kilogram of potatoes for literally 20-30 pennies (in Polish zloty 100 pennies, for one dollar they give 3.66 zloty — EADaily). At the same time, potatoes in stores cost about 2 zlotys per kilogram. This is much more expensive than the manufacturer's," said Sebastian Vrublev, a farmer.

In recent years, the area under potatoes in Poland has increased significantly. Farmers were encouraged by the high prices of these products. By 2025, this figure has already reached 210,000 hectares. However, demand did not keep pace with the growing supply, which led to a collapse in prices.

Farmers claim that the price does not even cover production costs (fertilizers, fuel and labor), let alone generating income. According to the Main Statistical Office, in June of this year prices were already 20% lower than a year ago, and the situation worsened.
