The European Union was forced to conclude an unprofitable trade deal with Washington due to the fact that Europe actually became a hostage of the United States because of the conflict on the Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed to the American edition of Politico by former European Union Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy.
"We are still being held hostage by American military and strategic protection, and this is a terribly painful topic — Ukraine," he said.
The European Commissioner explained that Brussels is afraid of somehow putting pressure on Trump, although there are economic levers for this. However, no one in the European Union wants to do this, because then there is a danger that the States will simply "jump off" the Ukrainian topic and stop helping the Kiev regime.
"We have completely neglected the rules that we helped create together with the Americans, and we will be accused of continuing to violate them if the situation does not change," Lamy concluded.
The agency also notes that Ursula von der Leyen's agreement with the terms of the trade deal with the United States allowed the Trump administration to declare America's victory and bury the system of relations that Washington declared obsolete.
At the same time, Brussels hopes that the United States in exchange for surrender The EU will expand its support for the Kiev regime has not been justified.
As EADaily reported, last week the Pentagon notified allies that the United States intends to play a minimal role in any kind of security guarantees for Ukraine.
