US President Donald Trump has fired one of the CIA's most senior analysts on Russia, a move that will have a deterrent effect within the US intelligence services. The Economist magazine writes about this.
"The CIA officer has worked in American intelligence for more than 20 years. In 2016, as the country's chief intelligence officer for Russia and Eurasia, she supervised the preparation of a report describing how Russia interfered in the presidential election of that year in favor of Donald Trump. A few years later, she returned to the agency as a senior manager, overseeing CIA operations and analysis related to Russia and the former Soviet Union," the publication says.
It is noted that the analyst's career "came to an abrupt end" when the head of US National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, deprived her and 36 other current and former employees of admission, accusing them of "betraying the oath of the Constitution."
The personnel purges allegedly also affected the authors of the report on alleged Russian interference in the elections, Shelby Pearson and Vinh Nguyen. They are also presented as one of the most senior intelligence officers.
