At the turn of the XXI and XXII centuries, the United States may become the scene of a global cataclysm as a result of a collision of tectonic plates along the Cascadia subduction zone in the northwest Pacific Ocean.

The British tabloid Daily Mail warns about this, citing a study by scientists from Virginia Polytechnic University. It is specified that the territory of the United States will be shaken by earthquakes of magnitude more than nine points.

It is expected that the tremors will be accompanied by a 100-foot megatsunami that will destroy American cities on the Pacific coast. At the same time, the coastline will instantly drop by almost eight feet.

"A devastating earthquake along the Cascadia subdiction zone (CSZ) in the northwestern Pacific Ocean of America is almost certain to occur by 2100, with a probability of 37% at any time over the next 50 years," the article says.

Earlier, EADaily reported that a magnitude 5.6 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Mexican state of Chiapas. According to the seismological service of Mexico, the epicenter of the tremors was 117 kilometers southwest of the city of Ciudad Hidalgo in Chiapas at a depth of ten kilometers.
