Actor and teacher, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Safronov died at the age of 84. This was reported by the press service of the Maly Theater.

"Sad news came to the Maly Theater — yesterday, August 5, at the age of 85, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Alekseevich Safronov died. A great master, a unique teacher," the message says.

Colleagues note that Vladimir Safronov will be missed by everyone at the Maly Theater.

"Joie de vivre and curiosity, interest in life and creativity never left him. The staff of the Maly Theater expresses its deepest condolences to the family, friends and friends of Vladimir Alekseevich Safronov. We grieve together! We will inform you about the date and place of farewell later," the press service also stressed.

Vladimir Safronov was born in Moscow on November 1, 1940. He graduated from the Shchepkin Theater School in 1962 and worked for three years at the First Moscow Regional Drama Theater. From 1965 to 1972 he served at the Pushkin Theater. Since 1972, Safronov has been a member of the troupe of the State Academic Maly Theater.

On the stage of the Maly Theater, the artist created about 60 roles. He was one of the best performers of roles in Ostrovsky's plays, both comedic and dramatic. Among the characters he played on his native stage are Pogulyaev ("Abyss"), Boris ("Thunderstorm"), Dosuzhev ("Profitable Place"), Razbalistov ("There was not a penny, but suddenly altyn"), Unknown ("Abyss"), Tatishchev ("Dmitry the Impostor and Vasily Shuisky"). The bright success of the master was Salai Saltanich in the "Last Sacrifice". Safronov created an interesting dual image in which a poorly concealed threat slips behind deliberate cordiality.

Since 1975, with interruptions, Safronov has been teaching acting skills in VTU named after M.S. Shchepkin. In 1985-2002 he was the head of the course, from 1991 to 1997 he was the head of the department of plastic education of the actor. In 2012, Safronov returned to the Shchepkin College again, where he was the artistic director of his own workshop until the end of his life.

The artist also took part in films and TV projects.

In 1997, Safronov was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, II degree. In 2020, he was awarded the commemorative medal of the President of Russia and received a letter of thanks from the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation.
