Sports commentator Alexander Grishin died last night at the age of 47 as a result of an accident — he was hit by an electric train during heavy rain when he was returning home.

The cause of the incident was a crossing in the wrong place at the Bitsa railway station in the Moscow region. The commentator was hit by an electric train with the Volokolamsk — Serpukhov message, the investigation found out.

"The incident occurred last night. Grishin's relatives began to worry and look for him after he had not come home for a long time. Later, the commentator's wife Anastasia received a call from the police and was informed that her husband's body had been found. Grishin and Anastasia's son was recently born," the Shot telegram channel reported.

On the fact of death, the Investigative Committee launched a pre-investigation check, law enforcement agencies noted that Grishin's death was not criminal.

The Russian Figure Skating Federation expressed condolences to the family and friends of Alexander Grishin!

"Alexander was a wonderful person, a professional with a capital letter, he was well versed in figure skating, understood the sport, his comments were always distinguished by depth and tact ... For domestic figure skating, Alexander Grishin's departure is a great loss!" the federation said in a telegram channel.

Alexander Grishin worked for many years as a sports commentator at figure skating, football and other sports tournaments. Over the years of his career, he has worked at five Olympic Games, World and European championships and a number of other competitions.

He began his television career in 2002 on the 7TV channel. From 2004 to 2015, he was a commentator on the Sport TV channel (later Russia-2). From 2015 to 2018, he worked on the Match TV channel. Since 2018, Grishin has commented on The first channel.

Honored Coach of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova noted that Grishin was a true professional and loved his profession.
