In the current situation, US President Donald Trump has found himself at a fork in the road — he has three main ways he can go by imposing new sanctions against Russia.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with the publication Lenta.ru political scientist-Americanist Malek Dudakov. He recalled Trump's promise to impose new sanctions on Russia if the Ukrainian conflict is not resolved after the 10-day deadline.

The expert said that the first option involves the introduction of tough sanctions, such as secondary tariffs. The political scientist believes that this is the most negative scenario for Trump, since he himself doubts the effectiveness of these restrictions.

The second option is the introduction of formal sanctions and tariffs. In this case, some institutions and organizations will be sanctioned. And secondary tariffs will be introduced with a large number of exceptions for different countries.

The third option is to extend the deadline for resolving the conflict. According to Dudakov, the execution of the ultimatum can be postponed for another 30, 60 or 90 days.

In this case, y Washington has the opportunity to announce that so far it has not been possible to conclude a truce, but there are all chances for negotiations. These hopes can be linked to the visit to Moscow of the special envoy of the American president Steve Witkoff.

"I think that either the second or the third option is still more likely than option number one with an attempt to put real tough sanctions pressure on Russia. Because for Trump, after all, the conclusion of a deal is an important story, and it would be illogical for him to lose this opportunity," the Russian political scientist concluded.

As EADaily reported, earlier US President Donald Trump announced India's intention to stop buying Russian oil for the sake of concluding a trade deal with the United States.
