Special Envoy of the US President Steve Witkoff will visit Russia after a trip to Israel. Donald Trump told reporters about this at the White House.

"Yes, he will go to Israel, and then to Russia, believe it or not," Trump said in response to a question about the special envoy's trip to the Middle East.

Earlier, the White House reported that Witkoff's visit to the Gaza Strip was scheduled for August 1.

Trump also said that the United States "is going to impose sanctions against Russia." But he added that he was not sure that this would have any effect.

The last time Witkoff visited Russia in April, he met with President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. Then Russia and the United States discussed the possibility of resuming direct talks between Moscow and Kiev. After that, three rounds of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul.

Prior to that, Witkoff came to Russia on February 11, March 13 and April 11.

CNN notes that the last trip of Trump's special envoy to Moscow did not lead "to an immediate breakthrough" in the settlement between Russia and Ukraine, and since then Trump's discontent with Putin has been growing.

The Kremlin said that they took Trump's words into consideration and declared Moscow's commitment to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
