In Germany, in a river near Leipzig, the wreckage of a military helicopter that was carrying out a mission of the Bundeswehr was found, Bild reports. The German military has not yet commented on the incident. The search for the pilot and crew members is underway.

The Bundeswehr helicopter crashed this morning, July 29. The plane disappeared from radar after 10:00. According to Bild, the wreckage of the helicopter in the Mulde River was discovered by kayakers around 11:30.

The crash site is located near the highway connecting Dresden and Leipzig. As a result of the crash, a large amount of aviation fuel poured into the river, which is collected on the spot by about 50 firefighters. The wreckage is in the middle of the river, making access difficult.

The police, firefighters and the military arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area, declaring it a military zone. Public access is closed. A spokeswoman for the German police said that a search was underway for the pilot and crew, including with the involvement of a diving group. The exact number of people on board is unknown.

The regional TV channel MDR Fernzeen clarifies that the helicopter was supposed to perform a training flight for the Bundeswehr. However, the aircraft was not part of the German navy. The Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on the crash.
