Many Ukrainian prisoners of war refuse to return for exchange to the territory controlled by the Kiev regime. From this contingent, after inspections, units of the Russian troops are formed.
This was told to the TASS news agency by Viktor Vodolatsky, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots.
"Today there are prisoners of war who refuse to return home, they want to stay here. Some conclude contracts after verification with units that are formed from soldiers of the Ukrainian army under the command of the Russian Armed Forces," the agency interlocutor explained.
At the same time, he noted that the Ukrainian military who returned to their homeland for exchange often end up in penal battalions and territorial defense battalions, which are located in the most difficult sectors of the front.
As EADaily reported, the last exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine took place on Wednesday, July 23. It was held in accordance with the Istanbul agreements reached on June 2.
