The French Mirage 2000 fighter, which was part of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), crashed in the Volyn region during a combat mission.

This information was confirmed on its official resources by the press service of the Ukrainian air force. It is specified that the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, July 22.

"During the flight mission on the Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft equipment failed, which the pilot reported to the flight director. Then he acted competently, as it should be in crisis situations, and successfully ejected,"the statement said.

It is claimed that the dispatched search and rescue team found the pilot, his condition is assessed as satisfactory. A special commission has begun work to establish the circumstances of the crash.

Earlier, the Ukrainian media reported that the Mirage 2000 crashed in the Volyn region in western Ukraine. This is the first case of the loss of this type of aircraft by the Ukrainian armed forces.

In February, French Minister of the Armed Forces Sebastien Lecorny acknowledged the transfer of several Mirage 2000 fighters to Kiev. He did not specify how many fighters Paris plans to supply, however, according to media reports, it could have been no more than six machines.

Earlier, EADaily reported that a flight of Mirage-2000−5F generation "4+" fighters of the Ukrainian Air Force wrote out a pattern characteristic of the Ukrainian trident coat of arms in the sky over the Black Sea.
