France concludes a "historic" agreement after the bloody riots — an agreement has been announced between Paris and New Caledonia. That is, a new state will soon appear on the world map, although it will not receive full independence, which informs Gazeta.Pl .

France and New Caledonia (territory east of Australia, in the western Pacific Ocean. — EADaily) announced the conclusion of the agreement on Saturday, July 12. It grants New Caledonia greater autonomy and recognizes it as a new State, but does not give it full independence.

French President Emmanuel Macron called the agreement "historic." It must now be approved by the French parliament, which is expected to happen in the fourth quarter of 2025. New Caledonians will then vote on the agreement in a referendum to be held in 2026.

The 13-page agreement provides for the creation of the "state of New Caledonia", which should be included in the French constitution. The new country will remain part of France, but a separate Caledonian citizenship will be introduced, acting alongside the French one.
