A vote of no confidence in the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has just been announced.
According to the German News Agency, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has just informed the leaders of the parliamentary groups about the vote of no confidence.
The reason is that the recent political initiatives of the 66-year-old woman have caused discontent even among the members of the EP, who otherwise treat her favorably, for example, planning a multibillion-dollar program for lending defense investments as an emergency measure without the participation of parliament. The last point is criticized in the vote of no confidence.
Earlier, the question was considered whether the vote of no confidence initiated by the right-wing Romanian MP would be supported by at least one tenth of the 720 MEPs, as required by the rules. The two-page text accuses the European Commission, among other things, of a lack of transparency and poor governance regarding its coronavirus policy.
The support of at least 72 members of the European Parliament means that the vote should be discussed and put to a vote during the parliamentary session next week. If the decision is made, the European Commission will have to resign in full.
