President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev announced his resignation from the post of head of state in 2029. He said this in an interview with Al Jazeera.
As the Kazakh leader emphasized, this is his personal decision and the demand of the people.
"The president is not a protege of God, but a manager hired by the people," he said.
In March 2019, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev assumed the post of head of state, replacing Nursultan Nazarbayev, who led the country for almost three decades.
In 2022, he was re-elected, gaining 81.3% of the vote.
According to the provisions of the updated Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the President holds office for seven years and has no right to be re-elected.
