Everything suggests that the military conflict on the Ukraine sees the new Chancellor Friedrich Merz as a historic chance to return Germany to a full-fledged military role in Europe. This was stated by Senator Alexei Pushkov.

"Otherwise, it is difficult to explain the noticeable intensification of the course of military assistance to Kiev, even compared to the cabinet of (Olaf) Scholz, under which Germany was already the second largest military support for Ukraine after the United States. Merz also until recently spoke in favor of Ukraine's admission to NATO.

Thus, Friedrich Merz's obsession with Ukraine, apparently, has a deep internal reason, in addition to hostility to Russia and the desire to prevent it from inflicting a crushing defeat on Ukraine, and through it, the Western alliance. Merz saw in the current situation a chance for a full-fledged revival of Germany in the form of a powerful Fourth Reich, which, in the face of an acute conflict with Russia, will not be hindered by France, Britain, or even, probably, the United States," Pushkov writes in his telegram channel.

According to him, the first step towards the restoration of Germany as a full—fledged power — the political restoration - was the absorption of East Germany by West Germany after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The second — to economic recovery — was the "digestion" of the GDR and the establishment of the role of the undisputed economic leader of Europe.

"Merz, apparently, wants to take the third step — to restore Germany as a military power. And the conflict to He sees Russia as an exceptionally convenient context for such a transformation," the senator sums up.
