Moscow will respond pointedly to the actions of the Polish authorities to close the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

On May 12, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski decided to revoke the work permit of the Russian Consulate General in Krakow.

"Now we are responding pointwise to their inadequate steps. We respond adequately, we respond taking into account our interests," Zakharova said on the air of the Solovyov Live TV channel.

The diplomat stressed that the Polish authorities, closing the Consulate General of Russia in Krakow, first of all, they are hitting themselves and their own citizens.

"In this case, when they closed and announced the closure of the Consulate General of Russia in Krakow, of course, they are hitting themselves. If those consulate closures that took place in 2022, they were just trying to prevent assistance to those citizens of Ukraine who fled, left, moved from the territory of Ukraine through Poland in order to get to Russia, and they needed, I mean the Polish authorities, to do everything to prove that there are no such citizens of Ukraine who want to come to Russia, who want to reunite with Russia. < And in this case, of course, they are hitting their own citizens, if not first of all, but they are definitely being hit," Zakharova said, quoted by TASS.
