The mayor of Naples called for calm and prudence after the earthquake in the western part of the Italian city. However, people and tourists are panicking.
Naples was hit by an earthquake the night before. And although the strength of the tremors reached 4.4 points (the epicenter was located on the Phlegrean fields — a large volcanic area located west of Naples), people ran out into the streets in fear. Stones from houses fell on parked cars. Fortunately, there are no casualties.
"The strong tremors inevitably caused fear and horror among the population," commented Naples Mayor Gigi Manzoni, ordering police to take to the streets with patrols.
As a precaution, train traffic was suspended. In many schools, classes are interrupted.
