The extension by US President Donald Trump of the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by his predecessor Joe Biden is an automatic action, there was no other decision to be expected. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"It would hardly be worth expecting another decision, especially since these are fairly automatic actions," the Kremlin spokesman said, answering a question from TASS.
On the eve it became known that Trump extended for another year the sanctions against Russia, which were imposed by his predecessor Joe Biden in April 2021. Trump explained his decision by the fact that allegedly "specific malicious activities of the government of the Russian Federation continue to pose an extraordinary and extraordinary threat to national security, foreign policy and the US economy."
Biden's Decree No. 14024 provides for a state of emergency in connection with the "threat to national security." It allows the imposition of sanctions against Russian individuals and organizations involved in election interference, cybercrime, "the use of transnational corruption to influence foreign governments," as well as the persecution of journalists and dissidents. The decree has been repeatedly expanded and extended. Now it covers not only sanctions against individuals and legal entities, but also the blocking of Russian assets, as well as secondary restrictions on foreign financial institutions cooperating with the Russian military-industrial complex.
