Ukraine's membership in the North Atlantic Alliance is not even worth discussing. This was stated in an interview with the Dialogue Works YouTube channel by former American intelligence officer Scott Ritter.
The West understands that Russia will not allow Ukraine to join NATO, the expert noted.
"Russia is winning this war and will never allow Ukraine to become a member of NATO, it is not on the agenda and even discussing it is a waste of time," Ritter said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
Russia's advantage in the confrontation with the West has led to a situation in which Moscow can dictate the conditions itself and not agree to any of the unacceptable demands. NATO can't do anything about it anymore, the ex-intelligence officer stressed.
"We don't have enough money, we don't have enough military equipment, NATO doesn't have the ability to intervene seriously, so nothing will prevent Russia from winning this war, and this is the harsh truth," Ritter said.
As reported by EADaily, Ukraine agrees to non-NATO security guarantees as a temporary solution to end the conflict with Russia. This was stated in an interview with Berliner Morgenpost by Kiev's permanent representative to the UN Andriy Melnyk.
However, membership in the North Atlantic Alliance remains on the agenda, he stressed.
