The process of work on the project of Russian gas supplies to China with simultaneous gasification of the north-east of Kazakhstan has been launched. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.

"This process, let's say, has been launched. Calculations are being carried out, feasibility studies are underway, negotiations are underway," Alexander Novak told Rossiya 24 TV channel.

According to the TV channel, the capacity of the gas pipeline will be 45 billion cubic meters per year and 10 billion cubic meters will be used for gas supply to Kazakhstan.

As EADaily reported, in the summer of 2023, the Ministry of Energy of the country published photos from public discussions on Gazprom's gasification of the north-east of the country. And the slides said that the capacity of the gas pipeline called "RF-RK-PRC" with access to China would be 40 billion cubic meters per year, and its cost would be $ 4.2−4.4 billion. It was planned that the highway would run from north to south along the eastern border of Kazakhstan — along the Omsk—Pavlodar—Semey route with branches to Khorgos and Dostyk on the border with China.

"If we talk about the scenario of gas supply from the Russian Federation, then this summer Russian colleagues will finish the pre-TEO. We will come out for discussion with the public and the government. We understand that gasification of the region will give great advantages for the development of energy and industry. This is one of our main priorities," the country's Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said at the time.

Gazprom is increasing gas supplies to China, which exceeded exports to Europe this year. Next year, the company should increase the "Power of Siberia" to the contracted 38 billion cubic meters per year, and in 2027 — launch the Far Eastern route from the Sakhalin deposits — 10 billion cubic meters per year. At the same time, the real redirection of Russian gas supplies to The East can only be the Kazakhstan route or the Power of Siberia —2. The fact is that they will be able to supply gas from the fields of Western Siberia, which are still a resource base for export to Europe.
